Brutal killings in Rohingya camps
Dhaka: Brutal killing in Rohingya camp in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Police said on Sunday that two Rohingya leaders were killed late Saturday night in the Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar district. The names of the deceased are Maulvi Muhammad Yunus (40) and Muhammad Anwar Hossain (38). Police spokesperson Farooq Ahmed said, “More than a dozen Rohingya miscreants hacked to death the all-time leader of Camp No. 13 Maulvi Mohammad Yunus. They also killed another Rohingya leader of the same camp named Mohammad Anwar. Yunus died on the spot. Anwar was taken to hospital. He died there.”
Bangladesh police described the incident as the worst attack in recent months. According to a Dhaka Tribune report, a large number of police personnel were deployed at the scene immediately after the attack. However, no one has been arrested in connection with the incident. As a result of the killing of these two Rohingya leaders, the Bangladesh Police believe that the overall security of nearly one million refugees living in that camp has become uncertain.
Mohammad Farooq Ahmad, Assistant Superintendent of Police of 8 Armed Police Battalion, said that Anwar and Yunus were talking to volunteers in front of a shop at approximately 6:30 pm on Saturday. Suddenly, a group of 15-20 miscreants pounced on them. According to the police, the incident took place due to an internal dispute over dominance. Ukhia Police Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali said that Rohingya terrorists have selectively killed the leaders of the Rohingya camp to prevent them from smuggling drugs and weapons.
A high-ranking official of the Bangladesh Police told AFP news agency that the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, or ARSA, is currently fighting with the Myanmar army. The group is suspected to be behind the pair's murder. According to the Bangladesh Police, Myanmar's internal conflict is having a detrimental effect on the Rohingya camps in Bangladesh. The security situation is deteriorating. In this situation, surveillance is being increased in Rohingya camps.
