AHMEDABAD: The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday (October 16) announced the names of 12 more candidates for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly Elections 2022. UP released the fifth list of candidates. Arvind Kejriwal's party has so far announced the names of 53 candidates for the 182-seat Gujarat assembly elections. The BJP, on the other hand, is going to bring in its various national office-bearers and experienced poll managers from different states to 'micro-manage' the Gujarat assembly seats. Elections in Gujarat are expected to be held by the end of this year. However, the Election Commission has not announced the election schedule yet.
A BJP source said on Sunday that along with leaders from neighboring states Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the party's central leadership has also tasked leaders from Uttar Pradesh to conduct the election campaign in Gujarat. All these leaders are experienced election managers. Those who will be allotted seats will share their views with the party central leadership regarding that seat. Also work to coordinate with local leaders.
BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde has been given charge of Vadodara and Chhota Udaipur districts. Similarly, two other national general secretaries, CT Ravi and Tarun Chugh, have been given charge of Anand and Jamnagar districts. Madhya Pradesh minister Narottam Mishra has been given the charge of Banskantha district and Uttar Pradesh minister Swatdar Dev Singh has been given charge of Kutch district. Two Madhya Pradesh ministers Arvind Singh Bhadoria and Inder Singh Parmar have been given the charge of Bharuch and Khera respectively. Bihar BJP leader Nitin Naveen has been given the charge of Surat.
BJP has been in power in Gujarat for the last 27 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself was the Chief Minister for more than 12 years. Before him, Keshubhai Patel was the chief minister for about a year. After Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, Anandiben Patel, Vijay Rupani and currently Bhupendra Patel have assumed the post of Chief Minister. However, despite being in power for so long, the BJP under the leadership of Madhab Singh Solanki could not break the Congress record of winning 149 assembly seats in Gujarat. BJP's aim is to break that record. Till now the fight was confined between BJP and Congress. However, Aam Aadmi Party is also fighting with full force this year.
