Manik Bhattacharya was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) despite being on bail. Manik Bhattacharya's lawyer filed a case in the Supreme Court. But this time Palashipara MLA and former Chairman of Primary Education Board Manik Bhattacharya pushed from the Supreme Court. Manik Bhattacharya's plea was rejected by the Supreme Court. Today, Thursday, Manik Bhattacharya has been informed that the ED's arrest was correct.
What exactly happened in the Supreme Court? Last Tuesday, the Supreme Court informed that the investigating agency cannot take strict action against Manik Bhattacharya. But they can continue the investigation. And today, Thursday, a bench of Justice Anirudh Bose and Justice Vikram Nath passed judgment in Manik Bhattacharya's plea case. There the ED's arrest has been informed as correct. As a result, Manik Bhattacharya's application has been rejected.
What else is being known? The Supreme Court had earlier said that CBI should submit the report within 4 weeks after completing the investigation. After seeing that report, the court will give further instructions. Apart from this, the Supreme Court gave a stay on the Calcutta High Court's order to cancel the appointment of 269 people in the initial recruitment corruption. Manik Bhattacharya's case is pending before a division bench of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Vikram Nath. On behalf of the ED, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta accused Manik of non-cooperation in the investigation. The bank accounts of his family members revealed huge financial transactions. Allegations of illegal recruitment were also made citing the list of job aspirants recovered from Manik Bhattacharya's house. Therefore, the special ED court ordered Manik Bhattacharya to be remanded in custody for 14 days.
Why ED's arrest is right? He got protection in the CBI case of recruitment corruption. But Manik Bhattacharya was not spared in the case of ED's arrest. The decision of the ED to arrest him was absolutely correct by the Supreme Court. How can ED arrest on the same charges? This question was raised in the Supreme Court. There the Supreme Court made it clear that protection was given in the case of CBI. But the central agency ED has separately investigated other cases related to that case. No instruction is given in case of ED. In this case, ED's argument in favor of arrest seems more reasonable. So the Supreme Court dismissed the petition of Manik Bhattacharya.
