Tehran: Iran is already burning with protests. Meanwhile, a terrible fire broke out in Iran's notorious Evin prison. On Saturday, smoke was seen billowing out of the prison in Tehran. Shortly after this, fire alarms and gunshots were also heard. A video posted on social media showed flames and plumes of smoke coming out of the prison. It should be noted that political prisoners are kept in this prison in Tehran. It is not yet known what happened inside the prison. The Iranian administration has not commented on this.

Several videos of Iran's Evin prison have been posted on social media since Saturday night. It can be seen that the smoke is coming out from inside the prison. Flames can also be seen. In another video, Iranian special forces are seen riding motorbikes towards the prison.

According to local news agency IRNA, the protest started in Evin prison around the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. From there, the prisoners clashed with the security guards. It is reported that at least 8 people were injured in the clash. It is also claimed that slogans against Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamini were heard from inside the prison.

A local resident who lives right across from Evin Prison tweeted, “I live in Atisaaz Tower right across from Evin Prison. I spoke to a friend there (in prison). I heard gunshots and Khamini's dying slogans. From American citizens to political prisoners are held in Avin. Their families are terrified. A large number of people gathered outside the prison gates. A large number of special forces have also been sent. Ambulance is also present.”

Meanwhile, Iran's legal department later issued a statement saying that the fire broke out in the prison's workshop due to a dispute between some inmates who were jailed on charges of financial embezzlement and theft. Iran's fire brigade also said that an investigation has been started to find out the cause of the fire.
